There are many success stories in the world, but how many of these stories become failures? Blockbuster is one of them. Blockbuster was once a giant movie rental store that people from all over the world knew. As time went on, Blockbuster continued to earn money, but the money they earned became less and less each year. Now Blockbuster is struggling against competitors like Redbox and Netflix. Blockbuster continually succeeded for many years, but now Blockbuster has had one failure after another. One failure Blockbuster made was that they did not advance on the opportunity to buy Netflix. Instead Blockbuster invested in Enron, whose stock eventually crashed. At one point this company was worth over 8 billion dollars, but now they are only worth around 200 million dollars. This same situation can happen to anyone and the Pittsburgh Pirates are no exception to this.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are not only considered a laughing stock in baseball, but also in sports in general. As I mentioned in my voicethread, the Pirates have lost for 18 consecutive years which is more than any other team in any other sport. This team was not always the laughing stock of baseball. Just before there 18 consecutive years of losing, the Pirates were a competitive team and made playoffs numerous times. Success can last only so long before someone must fail. Does continuous success always lead to continuous failure? Are there any other examples of this?
I do not believe that continuous success will always lead to continuous failure because sometimes people really do have a good thing going for them. For example, without any research, one would say that Starbucks is a growing company that continues to make money year after year, and we can see no sign of this stopping. Americans will most likely always like coffee drink. So will Starbucks ever go bankrupt?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that continuous success results in failure, because people can be successful throughout their entire lives and pass on that success to others. Obviously businesses are going to be put out by other businesses that are bigger and better, because the world is constantly progressing in technology, but I wouldn't consider this as a failure.
ReplyDeleteContinuous success almost always leads to continuous failure. Companies, people, franchises that are very successful often get incredibly cocky and put themselves on a pedestal. When somebody gets that full of themselves, they make mistakes and that's where their downfall lies..
