Contiuous Failure

Perfection is Continual Failure

Have you ever seen the perfection? No person can accomplish perfection and any person who attempts at perfection will continually fail. Robin Penn Wright once said “I want to be perfect. I don’t want to fail. I always fail”. No person can strive for perfection because they will always fail. They will fail even more the more perfect they try to become. People have to fail at some point in life and  any person who thinks they are perfect are going to continually fail, especially since they think they are perfect that they think they can accomplish anything. No matter how perfect they try to become, failure will always be present. Sometimes the thought of perfection being necessary becomes so important to people that they forget about other issues in their lives.
In the movie Friday Night Lights, the town of Odessa strives for perfection for their football team the Permian Panthers. Every person in Odessa was only focused on the perfection of their football team and anytime the team lost, it was a blow to the entire community. They even went to the length of putting for sale signs in the coach’s yard when they lost. The town forgot about the social issues that plagued the town and the education of the children because of the need perfection of their football team, which they did not accomplish. If perfection leads to more failure, why do people try for perfection? Have you tried for perfection and failed even more?

Success leads to Continous Failure

There are many success stories in the world, but how many of these stories become failures? Blockbuster is one of them. Blockbuster was once a giant movie rental store that people from all over the world knew. As time went on, Blockbuster continued to earn money, but the money they earned became less and less each year. Now Blockbuster is struggling against competitors like Redbox and Netflix. Blockbuster continually succeeded for many years, but now Blockbuster has had one failure after another.  One failure Blockbuster made was that they did not advance on the opportunity to buy Netflix. Instead Blockbuster invested in Enron, whose stock eventually crashed.  At one point this company was worth over 8 billion dollars, but now they are only worth around 200 million dollars. This same situation can happen to anyone and the Pittsburgh Pirates are no exception to this.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are not only considered a laughing stock in baseball, but also in sports in general. As I mentioned in my voicethread, the Pirates have lost for 18 consecutive years which is more than any other team in any other sport. This team was not always the laughing stock of baseball. Just before there 18 consecutive years of losing, the Pirates were a competitive team and made playoffs numerous times. Success can last only so long before someone must fail. Does continuous success always lead to continuous failure? Are there any other examples of this?

Continual Life Failure

As much as we try to stop failure we keep failing more and more. All people can do with failure is to fail better. Samuel Beckett once said, “Try again. Fail again. Fail better”. People try and try at a task and do not succeed, but they fail better at that task. Continual failure is good for a person because each time they fail they become better at the task they failed at. Sometimes one may not be able to fail better, but instead continually make the same mistakes over and over. Jim Rohn once said, "Failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. You don't fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few errors in judgment, repeated every day." People repeat the same mistakes every day of their lives. These mistakes are usually minor, but this does not mean that they cannot be major mistakes. Continual Failure is not a single event, but continual failure can lead to one cataclysmic event.
In the Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, Count Olaf chases after three kids and their fortune. Count Olaf makes many mistakes in attempting to capture the children and is never able to capture them or their money. Count Olaf’s mistakes eventually lead to his death. Count Olaf’s continual judgment errors, repeated in his plans to capture the children, caused him to never accomplish his goals of receiving the children’s fortune. Have you ever continually failed at something? Have you ever failed better?

Failure in Society

Have you not been able to succeed at a project or a game? Many people face these same situations every day. People continually fail and can never seem to learn how to fix failure. There is no way to stop failure. When you look at the headlines in a newspaper or on television, such as the picture by failuremag (located to the right side of the blog), these headlines are repeated every day of our lives. Headlines with the words climate change or mistakes are continually in the headlines of newspapers or on television throughout the world. Sometimes continual failure will even lead to the bad person accomplishing what they want.
In the movie Se7en (trailer located on the left side of the blog), two detectives, William Somerset and David Mills, hunt for a murderer who is killing people  because they have  one of the seven deadly sins. They are unable to stop this person from killing people. Once they caught the murderer, the murderer revealed that he had killed Detective David Mills wife. The detective, David Mills, heard about this and shot the murderer, who wanted to be killed because the murderer was guilty of envy, which is one of the seven deadly sins. The continual failure of the detectives allowed the murderer to be given what the murderer wanted. This blog shows the continual failure in our society and how society handles continual failure. Usually, society does not improve from failure, instead more failure arises. How has continual failure affected society?
